I recorded a cover of “Real Gone” for The Reducers tribute CD last year but forgot to share the link — until now. Listen to it here. You can download the song for as little as $1, but if you can spare a little more, that’d be great, too. All proceeds from the record go to the family of the much loved and even more missed Steve Kaika, who we lost to cancer last June. Download the entire album, why don’t you? There’s tons of great tracks on there.
I still feel so sad about Steve, and I don’t feel like writing about it. Some day, just not now. If you’re friends with me on Facebook, I’ve written about it a few times there. I’ll just say that I always wanted to cover a Reducers song, and it sucks that it had to be under such crappy circumstances.
But we did have fun in the studio and it truly was an honor to be a part of the tribute CD. The session was my first in 10 years, and it reunited me with The Generals, Leigh Gregory and Grant Miller, who played on my CD Just Like Breathing. (Leigh’s projects include White Sails, Memory’s Mystic Band, and Mellow Drunk; Grant’s, The Balustrade Ensemble and Mandible Chatter.) Sean DeGaetano of Mellow Drunk and Dora Flood was also part of the session, as was husband extraordinaire Michael Manson (he and I have our own band, but we change its name every week). Laura Dean of Tall Sheep was our excellent engineer and co-producer.
